Chen Xiaoyong is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences, East China Normal University, and dean of the School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences. His main research areas are plant-animal relationships, conservation biology, and mechanisms for maintaining biodiversity in fragmented habitats. He is in charge of the National Natural Science Foundation International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Project "BoCP: US-China: Contribution of Trait Innovation in the Banyan-Bee Symbiosis System to Increasing Biodiversity". He is also a director of the Ecological Society of China (ESC), a member of the Plant Ecology Committee of the Chinese Botanical Society, and an editorial board member of the Journal of Plant Ecology (CSCD) and Journal of Plant Ecology (SCI).
